Biographical note

Sam Tangredi graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1978, and went on to complete his Masters in National Security Affairs in 1985 at the Naval Postgraduate School, as well as a Ph.D. in International Relations in 1989 at the University of Southern Carolina. He served in the United States Navy from 1978-2008, retiring as a Captain. During the years of 1993-1995, he worked as a speech writer for Secretary of the Navy John H. Dalton, and Under Secretary of the Navy Richard Danzig. He has authored over 150 publications including 5 books, and now works as a Professor of National, Naval and Maritime Strategy at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, RI.

John Howard Dalton (1941- ) served as the 70th Secretary of the Navy from 1993-1998 under President Clinton. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis in 1964, and went on to serve in the Navy from 1964-1969, at which point he transferred to the U.S. Naval Reserve and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After his time in the Navy, Dalton received his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Pennsylvania in 1971, and went on to serve under President Carter as part of both the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Federal Home Loan Bank Board from 1977-1981. Dalton also worked in the private sector, primarily in investment banking and management, and now serves as the President of the Housing Policy Council at the Financial Services Roundtable.

Richard Jeffrey Danzig (1944- ) previously served as Under Secretary of the Navy from 1993-1997 of the Navy during the Clinton administration, with Secretary of the Navy John Dalton. Danzig graduated with a BA from Reed College, and a J.D. degree from Yale Law School, and both a Bachelor and Doctor of Philosophy from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. After serving with Dalton, he became the 71st Secretary of the Navy from 1998-2001. He has taught contract law at both Stanford and Harvard Universities, and served as an advisor to President Barak Obama during his 2008 campaign. Danzig now serves as a consultant to the U.S. Intelligence Agencies and Department of Defense.
