Biographical note

Otto Muller was raised in Darmstadt, Germany, where, after studying theology, he became the librarian at the Darmstadt court library then the private librarian for Prince Karl von Hessen. In 1843 he became the editor of the literary Frankfurter Conversationsblatt. He continued to write and edit throughout his career, espousing his political beliefs and his love of history. Many of his works were published in serialized form, and his best-known work, Charlotte Ackermann, was made into a play. Muller's wife, Gustava Fritz, died in 1854 after giving him a son, Gustav, and in 1856, he married her sister, Alvinia, with whom he lived in Stuttgart until his death in 1894.
