Biographical note

Jenine Bates was raised in the industrial town of Westfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of William Bates, a banker with a notable interest in secondary education. When she married, Jenine moved to Ashley Falls, Massachusetts, a smaller but still thriving valley town, where she lived for the next thirty years.
