Biographical note

Professor of English at University of Wisconsin, Abraham Chapman (1915-1976) published books on ethnic and minority literature in the United States. He earned his doctorate at the University of Chicago in 1937. His published work includes New Black Voices, The Image of Man as portrayed by Saul Bellow, Democracy as a Poetic Principle in Leaves of Grass, Steal Away: Stories of the Runaway Slaves.
