Historical Note
The Dean of Women position served a dean of students role, overseeing non-academic life and housing at Salve Regina College 1965-1973. From 1949-c. 1959, there was a Dean of Students in lieu of a Dean of Women. Beginning in academic year 1959-1960, the Dean of Students position was changed to Dean of Women.
A Sister of Mercy always served in this role: Sister M. Constance, RSM, Ed. D, formerly Dean of Students (1959-1961); Sister Mary Donald Egan, RSM, M.A. (1962-1968); RSM Sister M. Sheila O'Brien, RSM, M.S. in L.S. (1970); Sister Maria Renata Cremins, RSM (1970). The office was superceded by the Dean of Students after the college became coeducational.
