Scope & content

This collection contains preserved snapshots of web-based content of Brown University affiliated sites, either built on domains owned and maintained by the University or on external platforms used by administrative offices, academic departments, athletics, centers, institutes, publications, and student organizations. The collection includes ongoing archival crawls of websites and snapshots of sites that have been sunsetted. The dates noted in this finding aid represent the archived dates of websites.

Series 1, Administration (1997-ongoing). Websites relating to administrative functions of the University.

Series 2, Academics (2022-ongoing). Websites of academic colleges, departments, programs, Institutes, Centers, and Brown University Library arranged into three sub-series

Sub-series 2A - Academic Programs (2022-ongoing). Websites of academic programs and concentrations for undergraduates and graduate schools.

Sub-series 2B - Brown University Library (2007-ongoing). Websites from Brown University Library exhibits, collections, and legacy collection websites designed by the Center for Digital Scholarship.

Sub-series 2C - Centers and Institutes (2024-ongoing). Includes websites of interdisciplinary programs, Centers, and Institutes.

Series 3, Athletics (2018-ongoing). Websites of Brown's Athletic program and recreation.

Series 4, Campus Activism (2019-2024). News articles, social media, and additional websites about student activism and controversial events involving Brown University and the student body.

Series 5, Public Relations and Advancement (1997-ongoing). Websites related to the University's communications with alumni, students, staff, and the general public.

Series 6, Life at Brown (2014-ongoing). Websites related to non-academic services for students, faculty, and staff.

Series 7, Student Organizations (2013-ongoing). Websites of student run organizations, social media content, magazines, and The Brown Daily Herald.

Due to the nature of some social media platforms, dynamic websites, and current technologies, we are unable to preserve all content across platforms on an ongoing basis. Some websites may have been crawled more comprehensively than others.
