In the interview he relates his memories of Brown University during his undergraduate and graduate school days, noting how thing changed from 1965 to 1968. A majority of the interview focuses on his experiences as a Lieutenant in the Navy's Civil Engineer Corps before and during his assignment to Vietnam and the war. During the war he served in the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG), a highly classified, multi-service United States special operations unit which, among other things, conducted covert unconventional warfare operations prior to and during the Vietnam War.
