With the collection cames Mrs. Brown's papers and other documents relating to the collection although her private correspondence did not come to the library until after her death in 1985. This material provides a documentary history of the collection and her military interests and pursuits. |

The Anne S. K. Brown Papers (circa1940-1985) document the creation of the Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection, now a part of Special Collections of Brown University Library. There is no material relating to Mrs. Brown's life prior to 1940 nor of her life outside of her interest in the Military Collection. Information about other aspects of her life can be found in the Anne S. Kinsolving Brown papers (Ms.2007.013). The files are divided into four categories: correspondence, speeches and manuscripts; files relating to Mrs. Brown's major publications; book manuscripts and notes; and lastly, invoices of all the items acquired for the Military Collection.Access Points

Biographical note
Anne Seddon Kinsolving Brown (1905-1985) was an internationally acclaimed author and specialist in military uniforms. Born in Baltimore on March 25, 1905, the daughter of The Reverend Arthur B. and Sally (Bruce) Kinsolving, she graduated from Bryn Mawr School Baltimore in 1924. She married John Nicholas Brown of Providence, Rhode Island, in 1930 and had three children: Nicholas, John Carter, and Angela. She was a respected scholar of military history and besides writing numerous articles she authored two major works, "The Anatomy of Glory: The Story of Napoleon and His Guard", and co-authored with Howard R. Rice, "The American Campaigns of Rochambeau's Army, 1780, 17881, 1782, 1783."Access & Use
