Abstract: John Hovan fought against fascist forces during the Spanish Civil War, then fought in WW II. After returning to Rhode Island, he was questioned in front of Congress as a part of McCarthy-era red-scare hysteria. This collection consists of materials related to the activities of the Communist Party in the U.S. Included are brochures, pamphlets, books, official correspondence, and advertisements promoting recruitment and activities of the U.S. Communist Party.
