Abstract: This collection consists of materials associated with Barbara Orson, an accomplished American stage, television, and film actress, and one of the founding members of the Trinity Repertory Company of Providence, R.I. The collection dates from 1914-2011, the bulk of which ranges from the 1950s to the end of the 20th century. This collection documents her stellar carreer in theatre and film, from the time she began her formal studies at the Dramatic Workshop of the New School in 1948 until her retirement from Trinity Repertory Company. It includes correspondence, as well as an interesting collection of personal items, ranging from a childhood diary and autograph book, to acting awards, professional headshots, acting contracts, and resumes. It is particularly strong in its array of documents about the theatre, mainly associated with, but not limited to, Trinity Rep, including a substantive assortment of printed materials, such as programs, brochures, booklets, play scripts, and sheet music. Of special note is its stunning array of stage photographs dating from the mid-20th century to the late 20th century.
