Scope & content
The material from the United Fascist Union (U.F.U.) was donated to the Brown University Library by Jackson (Jack) Grimes. It has been organized into eight series, ranging in date from 1989 to 2011. Most of the material is dated between 1989 and 2005. The records include correspondence; copies of articles from newspapers, periodicals, and websites; Jackson Grimes' handwritten diary and speeches; biographical information about Grimes from "Project Vote Smart;" and legal documents.
Series 1. Correspondence contains letters to and from Jack Grimes and others. Correspondents include Deborah Cloud Bockemehl, Albert Roger and Eduardo Rios. The letters concern both political and personal matters. Some copies of articles from various periodicals are also included in this series. This material is dated between 1989 and 2005. Series 6. Political also contains some correspondence.
Series 2. Legal contains material related to various legal issues involving the U.F.U. Included are a copyright application for what Grimes described as a "fascist propaganda film" entitled Phoenix: Up from the Ashes as well as several subpoenas and victim's restitution forms related to a lawsuit involving Joanne Parker. This material is dated between 2003 and 2005.
Series 3. Miscellaneous consists largely of lists of radio and television stations and newspapers where the U.F.U. was planning to buy advertising. This material is dated between 2000 and 2004.
Series 4. Articles contains copies of articles from newspapers, magazines and various websites. Most of the articles are about contemporary political issues. Other copies of articles may be found in Series 1. Correspondence and Series 6. Political. This material is dated between 2001 and 2005.
Series 5. Personal diary and speeches consists mostly of handwritten copies of speeches that Grimes gave before various groups, including the City Council of Elkton, Maryland and a rally to support the homeless in Annapolis, Maryland. The personal diary is a selection of writings describing Grimes' dreams and ambitions. This material is dated between 2003 and 2005.
Series 6. Political contains copies of articles about fascism; statements about Grimes' political and religious beliefs; copies of several letters, many by Grimes, to the editors of various newspapers; some biographical information about Grimes from the "Project Vote Smart" organization; and a copy of all the material on the U.F.U. website as of 2011. This material is dated between 2002 and 2011.
Series 7. Drawings contains seven drawings. The drawing entitled "A Wake Up Call 2004, 2012, 2025" has accompanying text that appears to have been written by Grimes. Some of the other drawings have titles such as "Fame" and "Political Power". Only one of the drawings is dated (2004).
Series 8. Photographs consists mostly of copies of photographs of Grimes and his partner Joanne Parker. None of the photographs is labeled or dated. Jack Grimes' business card is also included in this series.
