Scope & content

This collection contains the professional papers of Carolyn Korsmeyer, University of Buffalo scholar of feminist theory, feminist philosophy, aesthetics, and emotion theory. Materials include syllabi, lecture notes, correspondence, book and journal proposals, and print materials. The collection dates from 1973-2012 and is arranged into 4 series.

Series 1, TEACHING, 1973-2012, includes syllabi, typed and handwritten lecture notes, and annotated readings for various courses taught by Korsmeyer. Courses include "Feminism and Political Philosophy," "Political Theory and the Background of Feminism," and "Simone de Beauvoir." This series is arranged alphabetically by course title.

Series 2, CONFERENCES, 1982, contains three files of Society of Women in Philosophy Eastern Division conference materials from 1982 where Korsmeyer presented a lecture about Feminist Scholarship: Kindling in the Groves of Academe. This series is arranged alphabetically by conference title then alphabetically by record type.

Series 3, WRITINGS AND RELATED, 1978-2003, includes proposals, agreements, and correspondence, related to various books, edited books, and special journal issues, by or co-authored by Korsmeyer. The bulk of materials in this series are related to Feminist Scholarship: Kindling in the Groves of Academe, but other titles include Feminism and Tradition in Aesthetics and Hypatia. This series is arranged alphabetically by project format then by title.

Series 4, PRINT MATERIALS, 1977-1982, contains a newspaper, a pamphlet, and a paper, all related to feminist philosophy scholarship. This series is arranged alphabetically by record type then by title.
