Scope & content

The Maurice Glicksman Files collection has 19 total series. The series spans the years 1954-2000, with a the majority of documents coming from 1960-1990. The series span from Glickman's position on University and national boards to his duties as a provost, researcher, and professor. It includes Glicksman's personal files on University research initiatives, internal and external grant funding, and correspondence with University professors, administrators, and alumni, as well as faculty/administrators from other universities and foundation. Although this collection mostly covers Glicksman's time as provost of the University, they contain some of his engineering and physical science research as well as his doxuments about RCA labratory, Glicksman's previous employer. Glicksman's time as University Provost also involved him in graduate school affairs and the Faculty Seminar program at Brown. Glicksman was also heavily involved in the Engineering department, faculty affairs, and staffing of the University, as per his job as provost. However, the bulk of the Glicksman Collection is centered around his positions on a number of boards within and outside of Brown University, including the Admininstrative Committee on Appointments and Promotions (ACAP), which mainly dealt with faculty and departmental affairs; the Administrative Committee on Academic Development (ACAD), which included reviews of departmental budgets, grant applications, and proposal control forms with acquisition orders. In addition to his position on ACAD and ACAP, Glcisman was also involved in the University Library Committee, which dealt with the search for new librarians as well as other library affairs. Similarly, Glicksman was also in charge of departmental professor evaluations and conflict of interest forms for those evaluations and had a place on the Academic Council at Brown, an advisory board that oversaw affairs in University academics. Glicksman was also a member of the Universities Research Association, participating in inter-collegiate research discourse and facilitating FermiLab affairs (a board of which he was also a member). Outside of Brown, Glicksman was a member of the Inter-Collegiate Committees, a national board with annual meetings of select college administrator.
