Biographical/Historical Note

Born in 1911, Patrick J James took jobs in the steel mills of Ohio to supplement his pursuit of a medical degree. He graduated from Brown University with a pre-med degree in 1932, but because of the Depression was unable to raise the money for medical school. Instead, he went into financial consulting, working as a vice president and senior investment consultant of Chase Manhattan Bank. He served as a Trustee of Brown University from 1963 to 1970 and as Treasurer from 1965 to 1970, and established a scholariship fund for students from Campbell, Garden City, and San Diego. He died April 25, 1998.
