Biographical/Historical Note

Pembroke Library was situated on the top floor of Pembroke Hall, the first building erected in 1897 for the use of Pembroke College, the Women's College at Brown.The building served in a strictly academic capacity until 1971, when it was renovated to contain office spaces. In 2008, Pembroke Hall was renovated again, and Pembroke Library was repurposed as classrooms, conference rooms, office spaces for the Cogut Center for the Humanities and the Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women.

Access to the collection: There are no restrictions on access, except that the collection can only be seen by prior appointment. Some materials may be stored off-site and cannot be produced on the same day on which they are requested.
Use of the materials: Although Brown University has physical ownership of the collection and the materials contained therein, it does not claim literary rights.
