Biographical/Historical Note
Written by Laura Hersh Salganik in 2023:
At Brown, I majored in psychology and was the Managing Editor of the Brown Daily Herald in 1969. I was an active participant in the curriculum reform movement that resulted in what we called the New Curriculum and was privileged to cover the faculty meeting that approved it for the Brown Daily Herald. After Brown, I taught at Nathan Bishop Middle School in Providence for four years; went to Harvard Ed School for a year; worked at the RI Department of Education in Research, Planning, and Evaluation for two years; moved to Baltimore and got a PhD in sociology at Johns Hopkins; and worked for 30 years at American Institutes for Research in DC. I retired in 2015, and among other things, I have been volunteering on two nonprofit boards. I met my husband at the Brown Daily Herald, and we have two grown sons.
