Biographical note

Malcolm S. Stevens (1912-1996) earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) in 1934. He then joined the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Reserve as a second lieutenant. He worked as a Civil Engineer for three years on the Panama Canal before returning to M.I.T. to join the research administration. During World War II, Stevens served with the Corps of Engineers in the European Theater of Operations. Stevens came to Brown in 1962 as assistant to the provost and coordinator of research. From 1966 until his retirement in 1975, he served as Vice President of Administration. He supervised planning for the University's physical growth, health services, and safety in athletics and physical education.
