Scope & content
The collection contains a course notebook, one folder of student work, and metal drafting tools, 1930-1935, and post-1945. The notebook contains Hardy's sketches of styles of ornamentation including Greek, Celtic, Chinese, Roman, Persian, and Byzantine, most likely from the History of Ornament course. The course work folder contains his color drawings of women's rings and pendants, 1930.The tools consist of a metal pantograph (M. Grumbacher, NY), rulers, a proportional divider (Teledyne Post, West Germany), and drafting compasses by Schoenner (Germany), Morilla (Germany), and others.

Biographical note
John Gabriel Hardy, Jr. was born in Rhode Island on 1908 January 7 to John Gabriel Hardy, Sr., a designer and sculptor, and Louise G. Hardy. John G. Hardy, Jr. entered Rhode Island School of Design in 1930 and continued to take day and evening classes until 1935 studying Drawing and Painting, Jewelry Design, and Decorative Design.He was married to Norma (Holden) Hardy and died on 1995 June 5.
