Historical note

RISD students started their own publications, distinct from the School administration's publications, as early as 1910 with The Lotus, a student yearbook. Many different publications have been released by the student body since then, varying widely in both content and format. Yearbooks, weekly newspapers, broadsheets, zines, and comic books are all represented within the collection, and their have also been several online publications over the past two decades. Particular publication titles tend to exist for relatively short time spans, as interested editors and writers often graduate from RISD without any successors in place to continue the publication.
