Scope & content
The videotapes record the morning session and the afternoon panel of the National World War II Memorial Competition Symposium held at Rhode Island School of Design 1997 April 26. The morning session presented an opening address by Ambassador Hadyn Williams followed by Brian Ambroziak and Katherine Bambric Ambroziak, Bernard J. Wulff and William C. Jackson, and Marion Weiss and Michael A. Manfredi.The afternoon featured finalists Friedrcih St. Florian, Rafael Vinoly, and Diana Balmori, but was not recorded. Hugh Hardy led the finalists in a panel discussion followed by remarks by RISD President Roger Mandle.
The videotapes have been digitized as part of a project made possible in part by a Libraries of Rhode Island (LORI) grant from the RI Office of Library and Information Services using funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The digitized videos must be viewed in the Archives reading room.

Historical note
The RISD Department of Architecture organized a symposium for the six finalists of the National World War II Memorial Competition held by the American Battle Monuments Commission. Held in the RISD Auditorum 1997 April 26, the six finalists presented their proposals during morning and afternoon sessions followed by a panel discussoin led by Hugh Hardy, a member of the design jury. Ambassador Hadyn Williams, Chairman of the Site and Design Commission gave the opening address.Access & Use
