Scope & content

The S. Elizabeth Campbell papers document cooperative teaching at Rhode Island College from 1958 to 1964. Other parts of the collection contain letters, drafts, and final copies of lesson plans and testing materials.

Biographical/Historical Note

S. Elizabeth Campbell was born around 1910 and was a graduate of the class of 1931 of Rhode College of Education (now called Rhode Island College). Campbell graduated with a master’s of education from Boston University School of Education in 1942. She later obtained her doctorate at Harvard Graduate School of Education. In 1946, Dr. Campbell was hired as an instructor at Rhode Island College of Education, and was eventually promoted to full professor in 1958. From 1958 to 1964, Dr. Campbell was the Coordinator of Student Teaching at RIC, which was responsible for placing students in school systems. She later retired from Rhode Island College in 1972 attaining emerita status. She died in October 1997.
