Biographical/Historical Note
The Task Force was appointed by former President Joseph F. Kauffman in November 1969. His charge was to evaluate out-of-class student resources to improve the on-campus experience. From evaluating student surveys and comparing other college campuses, they found that resident, commuter, and graduate students were not receiving adequate support and did not have enough reasons to stay on campus. The committee made several suggestions, including that of an orientation program, but offered these tentatively, and listed alternate solutions to meet these needs. Given the scope of the project, they were unable to come to a consensus on what should be implemented and how. However, they unanimously agreed that such a charge requires continuous planning and involvement of other parties beyond a single committee.
