Scope & content

The collection contains the papers of Florence Perkins from her time as both a student and teacher in Rhode Island. The collection includes an invitation from the Rhode Island Normal School (RINS) addressed to Perkins regarding graduation, along with graduation programs. Also included in the collection are programs for Perkins’ classes at RINS; a letter from Perkins to a parent regarding their sick child when she was a teacher at the Eden Park School; as well as various book catalogs. The collection also contains copies of materials from Fisk Teaching Agencies and leaflets from Humane Education from the Rhode Island Teaching Institute and school notebooks.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION  
Acquisition: These items were transferred from the Curriculum Resource Center at Rhode Island College to the Special Collections in 1995, likely when the CRC was established in Adams Library.
Custodial history: The collection was given to the Curriculum Resource Center (CRC) at Rhode Island College prior to 1995.
Processing information: This collection was originally prepared and described in 2012 by Special Collections Librarian Marlene Lopes. The collection was updated to current archival standards in 2024 by Special Collections intern Hailey-Rose Coulter Brown under the supervision of Digital Archivist and Special Collections Librarian Veronica L. Denison.
