Biographical/Historical Note

Peterson’s Magazine was a magazine focused on women. It was published monthly in Philadelphia from 1842 to 1898 and was created by journalists as a way to compete with Godey's Lady’s Book, which was also published in Philadelphia. Peterson’s magazine was sold at a cheaper rate than Godey’s. Peterson’s Magazine was purchased in 1889 and combined into Argosy magazine.
