Scope & content

The collection contains meeting minutes that detail brief summaries of meetings held at the office of the Commissioner of Public Schools at the State House in Providence, Rhode Island from June 6, 1903 to November 29, 1920. The records consist of elections of officers, votes, meeting attendees, topics, plans, and proposed educational legislation. The materials were removed from the original binder for preservation purposes and original order retained.

Biographical/Historical Note

The first meeting of the Rhode Island School Superintendents Association was held on June 6, 1903. The current mission of the Association is to use leadership, support, and advocacy to ensure the highest quality education for all children in Rhode Island.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION  
Acquisition: The provenance of the collection is unknown, however a note with the collection indicates it was given to the library or college in 1955 by Dr. Gaige (presumably Dr. William Gaige, president of the college at the time).
Processing information: The collection was described by Special Collections intern, Melissa Moniz, under the supervision of Digital Archivist and Special Collections Librarian, Veronica L. Denison, in 2023.
