Scope & content
The collection contains two lithographs created by Giacomo Lenghi, both with the title “Pompei.” The two works are numbered suggesting they are both part of a larger series of lithographs.
The first lithograph, numbered “7.”, is a mosaic piece depicting two men and a woman in room together. The two men gaze off at something in the distance, one gripping a shepherd’s crook, while the woman stares at the ground. Surrounding the image of the three is a mosaic design made up of crossing lines and boxes. Below this another, symmetrical, design shows what appears to be fish or dolphins.
The second lithograph numbered “40.”, shows a large spotted cat engaging with a snake coiled around a dead tree stump. Below this illustration are two golden geese, placed symmetrically and facing away from each other. Directly below this is a landscape of a building.
