Biographical/Historical Note
Maribelle Cormack (1902-1984) was born in Buffalo, New York. She studied at Cornell University. In 1926 she moved to Providence to become the Assistant to the Director of Roger Williams Museum of Natural History. In 1947 Cormack became Director of the museum, a position which she held until her retirement in 1972. Cormack received an honorary doctoral degree from Rhode Island College in 1966. She wrote extensively and published more than 20 books in her lifetime.
