Historical Information
St. John's Church dates its founding to May 1858, when a small group of Episcopalians in Barrington gathered in the town's train depot to hold services and to organize themselves into a parish.
By September, a parish was formally organized, a constitution adopted, a vestry elected, and ground broken for the construction of a brick church. In December, the Rev. Francis J. Warner was chosen rector and the first service was held in the newly completed church on January 12, 1859. St. John's has remained a fixture in the center of Barrington since then, an integral part of the religious, cultural, and social life of the community.
