Scope & content
The records document the years Frank Licht held the office of Governor in Rhode Island from 1968 to 1972. The collection also includes records consisting of political and judiciary reports from years before and after his time in office. A proposal to transfer the records was initiated in the Fall of 1972 and the deed of gift was signed on December 22, 1972 by University of Rhode Island President Werner Baum.
The Licht records were the first political papers to be acquired by URI. As such, they set a precedent for the acquisition of future governors' records and were partly responsible for the establishment of an archival department within the University of Rhode Island.
The files in each series are arranged alphabetically by subject unless otherwise noted.
