Martin Luther King Jr. Assassination Bullet and Rifle Test News Article Collection (Mss. Gr. 166)

Series 1. News Articles
The series consists of over 1,400 photocopied news articles regarding the University of Rhode Island State Crime Laboratory's investigation of the Martin Luther King Jr. assassination rifle. The articles were compiled by the University's Department of Communications, News Bureau Office, from February to August 1997.

The first folder contains an index to the news articles indicating date, newspaper, author, headline, city, state, and whether or not the article was obtained through the Associated Press wire service. Also included in this file is a booklet containing an introductory note from the Director of Communications, Linda A. Acciardo, the index, and selected articles from May 1997 when the investigation officially began.

The first article in folder three is from the Providence Journal, March 20, 1996. The article pertains to a case that chief investigator Robert Hathaway was involved in regarding a ballistics report filed by a Providence patrolman.

Series 2. Press Conference Video Tape
The series consists of one Beta Cam video tape recording of a press conference, May 14, 1997, regarding the Martin Luther King Jr. bullet and rifle testing investigation.
