In the Wake of '38 was a project sponsored by the South Kingstown High School and the Rhode Island Committee for the Humanities in 1977. The Project Directors were Linda Wood (librarian at South Kingstown High School) and Judith Preble (English teacher at the same school). University of Rhode Island professors James Findlay (specialist in oral history) and Edgar Leduc (chairman of the Political Science Department), as well as Everet Allen (author of A Wind to Shake the World), were also involved in the project.
According to the introduction to In the Wake of '38, students from South Kingstown High School conducted over seventy interviews with Rhode Island survivors and witnesses of the Hurricane of 1938. Sixty-five of the interviews are in this collection. The student interviewers were Shantia Anderheggen, Carolyn Bergfalk, Mike Borges, Christine Brady, Chris Coates, Jon Cooke, Mary DeFeo, Jane Hutton, Lynn Kimball, Cathy Lawrence, and Charlyn Tucker. There are no individual release forms signed by the persons interviewed with this collection. Permission to quote must be obtained from the interviewee.
