These papers include files and correspondence of J.L. Giddings, including those from his early work in Arctic archaeology in the 1930s, post-war employment a the University of Pennsylvania and its University Museum, appointment as Director/Curator of the Haffenreffer Museum of the American Indian on its donation to Brown in 1955, employment at Brown University in the Sociology/Anthropology department, professional and personal correspondence 1956-1964, Museum records of the same period, administrative and academic files relating to Brown University and its Anthropology Department, correspondence and clippings relating to his death.
Arrangement: Colleagues' correspondence are filed under their names. However, additional correspondence with those individuals may be found in the alphabetical files, for example letters to/from J. Van Stone also occur in the "V" file. Other correspondence has been maintained in the files and file headings that Giddings maintained, such as "Expeditions" or "Danish Year Correspondence."
