Historical note
The company of Chapman and Flint began building ships in Thomaston and Bath, Maine in the late 1840s or early 1850s. The partners went their separate ways in 1888 - as Flint and Co. and Chapman and Co. - but still collaborated on certain ventures. John McDonald was the manager of the Flint and Co. boatyard, and he is sometimes erroneously credited as the owner of various Flint and Co. vessels.
