Scope & content
The collection consists of 29 pencil drawn sail plans on 23 sheets, for ships built by Flint and Co. and Chapman and Flint. They range in date between 1868 and 1893, and are contained in the original oblong portfolio. In addition, there are at least eight other sail plans that are currently too badly damaged to be identifiable (creased and torn). Many of the sheets have a full sail plan on one side and a partial one on the reverse; the reverse side plans are not always identified. A majority of the ships are identified by name in pencil in the lower margin as well as in a stylized nameboard on the hull of the ship. Some of the drawings are also dated. In some cases not all of the ship's name is clear and is recorded as such below. The full sheets measure approximately 21 1/2 x 27 inches.
