Abstract:: The Jeanne McHugh Kerr papers relating to Alexander Lyman Holley consist chiefly of manuscripts and research materials relating to Kerr's biography of Holley. The papers also include several scrapbooks and letter books that belonged to Holley, samples of minerals and stainless steel, microfilm of Holley's papers at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., and personal papers such as a desk diary and address book that belonged to Kerr. The material is dated between 1847 and 1983, with most dated between 1949 and 1980.

Abstract:: The Carleton D. Morse whaling collection contains correspondence, logbooks and accounts, seaman's journals, merchant's and owner's accounts, reports and legal documents, literary works, photographs and engravings, as well as newspaper clippings, research notes, ephemera and other printed materials pertaining to whaling. Generally, the materials date from the middle 18th century to middle 20th century. This collection is part of a broader collection of whaling books, pamphlets, clippings and shipping lists collected by Carleton D. Morse (Brown University Class of 1913).

Woods (Alva) Papers

Abstract:: Most of the material in the Alva Woods papers consists of correspondence, documents, publications and writings that belonged to the Alva Woods family and the Brown family of Providence, Rhode Island. Most of the material is dated between 1812 and 1918. The papers also include architectural drawings, ephemera, one map, newspaper clippings, handwritten recipes, and some photographs. The material is housed in two letter-size Hollinger document cases, one legal-size Hollinger document case and one triple oversize box.
