Abstract:
The John Nicholas Brown II papers span the lifetime of John Nicholas Brown from his birth in February 1900 to his death in October 1979. While the bulk of the collection dates from the period 1960-1979, there are important materials from nearly every portion of Brown's life. The collection is comprised of manuscripts, ledgers, notebooks, journals, photographs, postcards, pamphlets, film, artifacts, architectural plans, blueprints, and other similar materials.

The collection contains photographs and other memorabilia from the life of John Nicholas Brown II and his family. Film, sound recordings, postcards, newspaper clippings, portraits, photograph prints and slides comprise the bulk of the collection.

Abstract:
Architectural historian and documentary filmmaker, Wheaton Holden was a specialist on the life and work of Robert Swain Peabody and Julius Adolph Schweinfurth. This collection contains mostly materials relating to Holden’s research on architect Robert Swain Peabody and his Boston-based firm Peabody and Stearns. Included are Peabody's films, diaries, reminiscences, writings, and processed copies of his correspondence. Also included are files on Peabody and Stearns building projects, with drawings, plans, photographs, and clippings. Finally the collection includes two videos created by Holden: The Peabody Touch and Providence Remembered.

Abstract:
The collection comprises 390 architectural drawings dating from 1844-1859 by Rhode Island architect Thomas Alexander Tefft (1826-1859). These include public buildings (churches, schools, libraries, hospitals) and private residences, in addition to towers, gates, monuments and gravestones. In some cases, there are various elevations, views, and floor plans for the same structure. While many of the structures Tefft designed still stand, some were never built, and many have been destroyed. Tefft was a graduate of Brown University (Class of 1851).
